Siemens offers few models of collaboration, and startups can adopt more than one in parallel. There is no specific sequence, and the collaboration model is tailored per case, jointly with the Siemens team. Below are selected examples for the different models.
Our most common way of collaboration with startups is to select those that have a complementary offering to the Siemens portfolio. Ecosystem partners often integrate with one or more of our products.
Instrumental has built the leading Manufacturing AI and Data Platform for brands and manufacturers developing and producing consumer and mission-critical electronics. The platform optimizes assembly, operations, and quality control processes to accelerate time-to-market, improve yields, eliminate rework, and save engineering time. When combined with Teamcenter Quality, Instrumental supports Siemens’ closed loop quality approach. This helps electronics OEMs go from Quality Management to Quality Optimization. Instrumental's solutions can be purchased on Siemens Digital Exchange.
Boardera Software is focused on helping PCB manufacturers and EMS assemblers bring their services online with cutting edge e-commerce tooling built specifically for the PCB industry. Using smart design and automation results in drastic reductions in overhead, costs and lead times. Since August 2022, Boardera’s services are also available via Siemens’ PCB Flow platform.
Cybellum's Product Security Platform and services enables device manufacturers to manage the main aspects of their cybersecurity operations across business units and lifecycle stages. From SBOM to Vulnerability Management, Compliance Validation, and Incident Response, teams ensure their connected products are fundamentally secure and compliant – and stay that way. Cybellum’s combined offering with Siemens’ Polarion Application Lifecycle Management solution (ALM) enables users to manage cybersecurity and safety threats throughout the engineering cycle. Cybellum was acquired by LG Electronics in 2021.
A more advanced model of collaboration is adding the startup offering to the Siemens portfolio. One or more startup solutions are added to Siemens' price book and can be offered by Siemens' direct and indirect sales channels.
Cybord provides Electronic Components Analytics solution that improves confidence in the reliability of products. Cybord’s visual AI analytics ensures the quality, authenticity, and traceability of 100% of electronic components. It reduces scrap, failure rates and waste, and ultimately increases customer profits. Cybord’s solution is part of Siemens’ offering in the electronics market.
Portcast, Headquartered in Singapore, provides predictive visibility and demand forecasting for international transportation. Leveraging proprietary machine learning and generative AI, the platform processes over 5 million data points daily from 370+ ocean carriers and airlines, 6,000+ vessels, 1,200 ports, direct integrations with 45+ terminals. Siemens Digital logistics partnered with Portcast in 2023 to enable more resilient and transparent supply chains for shippers and freight forwarders. Portcast is also available in the Siemens Xcelerator Marketplace.
Realtime Robotics provides a powerful suite of software tools for programming robotic arms and the systems they are used in. They automate the programming and execution of robot motions, cutting out difficult and costly aspects of operating robots. Visualize, prioritize and simulate path plans to validate robot programs with a seamless Process Simulate plug-in.
The collaboration with Siemens can take the form of joint research projects. Siemens can invite partners to join projects that are funded by external research institution, or in some cases, fund them directly.
Retrocausal is an industry leader in AI-powered intelligence augmentation systems that helps manufacturing workers avoid assembly mistakes, be more efficient at their daily jobs, and improve the processes they drive. Its Assembly Copilot™ and Kaizen Copilot™ products use machine learning, computer vision and AI to continuously guide, track and analyze assembly processes. Retrocausal joined the Siemens Frontier program in 2021, and developed integration with Siemens Process Simulate Human as part of a funded research project. The next step was to interface Siemens' Opcenter Execution platform, in order to streamline the production and manage quality more effectively.
SkillReal is realizing its mission to deliver accurate & reliable next-generation Digital Twin technologies across industries, helping global manufacturers to significantly shorten time of serial production, and improve productivity and quality. Through its partnership with Siemens, SkillReal was able to secure funding from the Bird Foundation – a US-Israel fund investing in joint technology research projects. Since 2023, SkillReal is also a portfolio partner of Siemens.
Cybord, listed above as a portfolio partner, was also able to secure research funding thanks to is partnership with Siemens. In 2019 Siemens in Israel joined the Multi-National Corporates program of the Israeli Innovation Authority, in November 2020, Cybord was the first startup awarded a grant within this framework.
The Siemens Dynamo program does not include an element of investment, however, in few cases the partnership lead to equity discussions with Siemens or its partners, and few of those resulted in agreements.
Inspekto enables out-of-the-box visual quality inspection and requires no expertise in vision solutions or AI. Inspekto is easy to deploy and use, scalable, and provides the necessary connectivity to existing automation systems. Inspekto joined the Siemens Dynamo program in February 2020, and was acquired by Siemens Digital Industries in February 2024. During this period, it was deployed in different Siemens factories and has been building integration with Siemens Industrial Edge. See also this Inspekto presentation at SPS 2024.
ioTech from Jerusalem has developed a multi-material additive manufacturing technology that can process almost any industry certified material at high resolution and high speed. In 2019 we introduced ioTech to our innovation partner ASM Assembly Systems GmbH & Co. KG. This led to a successful technology collaboration as well as capital investment. Guenter Schindler, COO of ASM SMT Solutions talks here about ASM SMT's collaboration with Siemens Dynamo.
Siemens AG is a very large Multi-National Corporate spanning a variety of domains, including Digital Industries, Smart Infrastructure, Mobility and more. Sometime the preferred path for Startup collaboration is supplier relations.
Razor Labs (TASE: RZR) a leading developer of AI solutions for industrial manufacturing processes, in March 2022 it has announced that it was selected by Siemens Energy to implement a pilot at its O&M site in Israel, for the station’s cooling system. DataMind AI predicts the future power supply of the station, verifies the optimality of the cooling system performance and the optimum output of the station.
